Do one thing well.
It doesn’t sound much, does it?
But how many coffee shops have you been to that can’t make a  cup of coffee?
How many pizza places have you been to that can’t make a good pizza?
How many hotels have you been to that aren’t very good at having people stay over?
To do one thing well can take a lifetime to learn.
To make a simple loaf of bread can take twenty years to learn.
But the good thing about business is that if you can do one thing well, it will be enough to keep you in business.
Choose where to shine.
Then hone it. Kaizen it. Push it.
Work at it. Become the best at it.
Evan Williams describes it as being narrow.
Google didn’t try do everything well. They did less. But they did it better.
It had less on its search engine than others, but did it faster and more accurately.
Stay Narrow. Stay Good.

Scrapbook your destination

Know where you want to go.
Write it down.
Get some pictures of what you think it will look like.
Then buy a scrapbook.
Stick your dreams in there.
Then each morning just look at it.
Have a quiet moment with your dreams.
Live them in your head.
Imagine you are there.
Sounds funny when you write it down.
But all your are doing is using the brain to connect the dots
between you and your dreams.
Then each day, you go to work to make them happen.

Do Books

The good news is all your heroes have egos.
They will at some point have to put down on paper their thoughts.
How they made it, what they have learnt,
They will write articles.
They will do talks.
Read their books. And reap.
Profit from their ego.

Small tent. Big ideas.
This is where the Do Lectures take place.
It holds between 85-100.
when it rains, we hear it.
when the wind blows, we feel it.
its a great place to do a great talk.

Learnings from the chicken shed.
1, They know how to keep things simple.
Up at dawn.
Roost at dusk.
Eat when hungry. (most of the time)
Drink when thirsty. (whenever not eating)
Lay the odd egg.
Simple works for them.

Be difficult.

Be demanding.

Be precise.

Be exacting.

Be indignant.

This is a book worth reading.
It sold a million or so I am told.
It’s by my old boss -Paul Arden - who sadly died last year.
